Babel=a confused noise, typically that made by a number of voices.
The Tower of Babel is all about the evolution of individuals into a tribal mentality. It is now the denomination, the doctrine; it is now the group.
Let’s delve a little deeper.
Genesis 11:1-9 King James Version (KJV)
1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
We see that they journeyed from the East, the spiritual/divine side, the right hemisphere of the brain, and that they found a plain. Plain, or any wide open space, means confusion. So, you can see the pull of the carnal mind, ego, West, left hemisphere of the brain. Now you are dwelling in the confusion of the lower mind.
See here for the etymology of Shinar, which is quite entertaining. Thought to possibly mean ‘Tooth Town’ or ‘City of wit.’
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
Brick is made out of the mud. Mud comes out of the Earth, which is symbolic of your lower emotional nature. Obviously, slime is also just another representation of the same.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
In other words, let us build a way to heaven, instead of working together in harmony as a single movement; God-consciousness if you will. Let us make us a name, get a doctrine, and we’ll build the way to heaven.
5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Gaskell’s defines children of men as the following: “Opinions, ideas and impressions formed in the lower mind.”
6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
A huge hint is dropped there. If we could only work together as a whole “nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined doing.”
By the way, why doesn’t God want people working together? That’s not suspicious at all. What’s He afraid of?
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
They scattered to build their own city. The Catholics used white brick, the Buddhists chose red brick, the Presbyterians use pink brick, the Methodists use green brick. Everybody’s got their own kind of brick and they say you can get to Heaven with this kind of brick. They’re building and they’re building but they’re not seeking the true Kingdom within. They’re building their cities and they’re scattered all over the Earth. They don’t understand each other, the language has been confused and it is the same to this day, and that’s just the way it was made by the Creator. Because once you get people who are divided and split apart it’s like when Jesus said in Matthew 12-25, “A house divided against itself will not stand.” They’re no threat to the kingdom of God at all because they don’t understand it, they don’t pay any attention to it, they leave it alone because they’re too busy with their kind of bricks trying to build the tower that’ll never make it above the second story, and it all becomes our religious condition, it all becomes our religious confusion, and they babble on and babble on and babble on and babble on.
