Nephilim: they might be giants…or maybe not

Nephilim means “the fallen ones” and/or “the extraordinary or marvelous ones“.  This meaning comes to life when we dig into the etymology of the word:  From the verb נפל (napal), to fall, which appears to have to do with the verb פלל (palal), to distinguish, or פלה(pala), to be extraordinary.  http://www.abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Nephilim.html

Let’s take a look at some biblical references to these strange beings.  The first comes from the Book of Genesis in the pre-flood narrative:

Genesis 6 1-4 (KJV)

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
² That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
³ And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
⁴ There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

I have seen so many sites with a literal take on this one and with so many bizarre conspiracy theories that it would give you an aneurysm just trying to decipher it all.  But we have a trump card, don’t we?  We know that these texts are not to be taken literally.  That they are supposed to be spiritually discerned.  So let’s do just that.

The first highlighted area says “men began to multiply on the face of the earth“.  First of all, what about women?  Did they multiply, too?  As you can tell, this was written by men for men.  The suppression of the woman was in full swing back in those masculine glory days.

‘Men’ or ‘man’, esoterically, means ‘the mind’.  And we see that they multiplied on the face of the earth.  Earth is the lowest state of consciousness that the Greeks referenced in their writings.  Earth, Water, Air & Fire; all references to states of consciousness.  So the reference is to the lower aspect of the masculine, which is the carnal mind.  The next phrase says that “daughters were born unto them”.  We see the lower state of ‘earth’ referenced so we know that this is a reference to the lower aspect of the feminine, which is the emotional nature.  So that small phrase means that the people were dwelling in their lower emotional natures or their lower minds.  God does not like that we know since he floods the earth shortly after this, which is another allegory about consciousness, and not to be taken literally.

Next is the phrase “sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives“.  “Sons of God” are the slightly evolved mental qualities of the mind.  “Daughters of men” are symbolic of the desire nature of the emotions.  So the slightly evolved mental qualities of the mind are married –  “took them wives” –  to the desire nature or lower mind.  The “Sons of God” cannot evolve any further because they are still attached to the lower mind.  Romans references the higher mental state as something waiting to be manifested in the following passage:

¹⁹ For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Next it says man’s days “shall be an hundred and twenty years“.  This is in reference to the evolution of the spiritual ego that eventually achieves reunion with the Higher Self, which is perfection, which is the number “12”.  Drop the “0” from the number and the secret meaning is revealed.

The next passage is “giants in the earth“, meaning enormous egos dwelling in their lower natures.  Our current president in the United States embodies that exceptionally well.

In the Book of Enoch (an apocalyptic text not in the Bible) we find yet another reference to these giants.

7:1 It happened after the sons of men had multiplied in those days, that daughters were born to them, elegant and beautiful.

7:2 And when the angels, (3) the sons of heaven, beheld them, they became enamoured of them, saying to each other, Come, let us select for ourselves wives from the progeny of men, and let us beget children.

7:3 Then their leader Samyaza said to them; I fear that you may perhaps be indisposed to the performance of this enterprise;

7:4 And that I alone shall suffer for so grievous a crime.

7:5 But they answered him and said; We all swear;

7:6 And bind ourselves by mutual execrations, that we will not change our intention, but execute our projected undertaking.

7:7 Then they swore all together, and all bound themselves by mutual execrations. Their whole number was two hundred, who descended upon Ardis, (4) which is the top of mount Armon.

7:8 That mountain therefore was called Armon, because they had sworn upon it, (5) and bound themselves by mutual execrations.

7:9 These are the names of their chiefs: Samyaza, who was their leader, Urakabarameel, Akibeel, Tamiel, Ramuel, Danel, Azkeel, Saraknyal, Asael, Armers, Batraal, Anane, Zavebe, Samsaveel, Ertael, Turel, Yomyael, Arazyal. These were the prefects of the two hundred angels, and the remainder were all with them. (6)

7:10 Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantations, and the dividing of roots and trees.

7:11 And the women conceiving brought forth giants, (7)

7:12 Whose stature was each three hundred cubits. These devoured all [which] the labor of men [produced]; until it became impossible to feed them;

7:13 When they turned themselves against men, in order to devour them;

7:14 And began to injure birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes, to eat their flesh one after another, (8) and to drink their blood.

7:15 Then the earth reproved the unrighteous.

The key to understanding this entire bizarre tale is where it tells you how tall these creatures were.  The number ‘9’ is mysticism is representative of consciousness, which is subject to duality, just like everything else in sacred texts.  We arrive at the number 9 by understanding how long a ‘cubit’ is.  It’s agreed upon length, according to scholars, is 18 inches.  1+8=9, and they were “three hundred cubits” tall.  300, so drop the zeros to arrive at the number 3.  Multiply the number 3 by 18 to arrive at the number 54.  Add 5 and 4 together to arrive at 9 again.  That may seem confusing but it is how you work out the hidden meaning.

There is a very clear description of these creatures as being massive consumers of first their food and then the actual men.  So they are definitely associated with the lower aspects of consciousness.  Not actual giants.

Now, is there supposed “evidence” of giants on the Earth?  Yes.  Is it real or fake?  It appears to be fake, according to an article in Snopes.  Additional debunking can be found here.  But don’t be disappointed because I have another opinion on how these giants made their way into biblical myth.

The word “Nephilim” has a strong resemblance to the Aramaic word “Nephila”, which is a reference to the constellation Orion.  And what famous event do we know of in Orion?  The Orionids or the Orionid Meteor Shower is associated with the every 75-76 year passage of Haley’s Comet, which has been recorded from at least 240 BC.  Plenty of time to make it into the mythology of the Old Testament.  Below is an image of the Orionids.

Remember, the word “Nephilim” means “the fallen ones” and/or “the extraordinary or marvelous ones“.  Did the ancients look to the sky in antiquity, possibly observing the passage of Haley’s Comet and the subsequent meteor shower, and attach this amazing celestial event to the Nephilim we have just covered in this article?  I can’t definitively prove it but it sure seems like a reasonable conclusion to arrive at given what we have discovered here.
